Doodler

I think i said i didnt like the way my project was going in my earlier posts (i havent read them in a while) but if i didnt say that. Then thats how i felt.

But due to spare time at work and on buses going to work i found time to try and explore my idea and characters a little further. There was a lot to explore since i didnt really have anything in the first place.

So below is me, exploring what i believe is going to be my main character.

The drawing above isnt great...at all, but its definatly showing some minor progress in comparisons to some of the doodles i've done in my sketch books. The head on the guy in the background seems the most complete with a couple of faults such as eye and ear positioning. I like the mouth shape though. His body is on an add angle though and his hands and arms are deformed. The character closer to us is to messy.

I like this. The guy on the left is the main character..and the one on the right is his buddy or something. It wasnt supposed to be taken t o seriously but what with being so relaxed while drawing it its actually turned out better then some of my other attempts.

And here is my main character. I beginning to get used to drawing his face and working out the positions of his cheeks and how every acts around the eyes, mouth etc. Unfortunatly the arm and hand is a bit deformed but its progress. AT LAST!

I have more ideas, but i've only been home from work for 1hr and would rather sleep then write them down.

Slightly Better

My character is now taking on a more structured form. What you think? Yes, No?

After work tired thought scribbles

I'm struggling to enjoy drawing this guy. He's to generic in my opinion. More so then the characters in my first post. I'm trying to evolve him into something that i can enjoy drawing but that is also appealing to a 'target audience'.

Look at these drawings below and tell me what you think:

All these were done after work, so i was pretty tired and my mind wasnt working to well. So thats my excuse for the shoddyness of these drawings.

Here is my first attempt to make him more of a fun cartoon character that i enjoy drawing. I dont like it. Its butt ugyly. Nothing seems to fit or have any defining personality in my opinion.

Swiftly moving on. I prefer this...but only by a little bit. One of my problems is that i like exteme expressions to much. So when i have to draw something slightly subtle i get bored and agitated. So i have to try and discipline myself. This drawing here wasnt referenced from anything..and it shows. I usually use my own face when i refeence for the extreme expressions. So to me, in some cases, they have slightly more belivability even though they are more extreme then this one below. But,as a plus, i think the shapes here are working a lot better then the one above.

From here on i was starting to get tired. So my drawings begin to fall in out of proportion and different forms of expressions. I like the body on this guy. The head is a mess.

I like this.

So though many failed scribbles i started to get mad. So i needed to unwind by drawing this character in this totally wierd expression. I had a lot of fun drawing it but i doubt i will ever be able to...or be allowed to put this into my animation. I might sneak it in. Even if it was just from a frame or two.

So after venting all that rage on the previous drawing i believe this chracter eventually began to take some form. This isnt great. This, like all the rest is another scribble i cleaned up. But i like the body and how all the different shapes and forms work with each other. I just got to work on putting both feet firmly on the ground and actually drawing both arms in.

After drawing for so many hours. I scribbled down some ideas for a quick storyboard idea. If you can even read this retarded spidery writing then your one of the first who can. I need to look over this story again. I literally wrote it down then went to bed and havent looked at it since. But its all part of back up work.

Thanks All.

Doodle?

Well. I went along to show my idea to Martin before i start my FMP for what seems like the third time. Sheila was there so i was also blessed with her wisdom. The character i had shown them got fair criticism. (he was a bit unoriginal etc) but the character they liked which i had no intention of showing them they seemed to love. Which was wierd to me. It was a thoughtless doodle.

Here is the little chap

Personally i'm a little confused. I dont like this drawing. As i remember this doodle came from my absolute frustration from a writers block conjined with a bunch of flat shitty flash cartoons on cartoon network. I'm even pretty sure i'e drawn him before, but if martin and sheila have confidence in it then i might as well explore him a little further. I have more of him done since this meeting but im to tired to scan for another thirty minutes.

What do you guys and gals think?

Here is my new characters Well what he looked like approxmatly a month ago but since all the changes in him since them have been minor i still thought i could upload these. I was going to originally post up the creation of this character and all the revolving characters in the order of which i created the. But that would revolve around me just uploading a bunch of ugly little scribbles.

Instead of trying to be pretencious, i thought i would instead just go back to the basics and just draw the stupid characters i've always enjoyed drawing. This character is inspired by earlier Looney Tunes characters like beans which set the overal style for certain Bob Clampett characters and eventually John K (i think) Although i worry that it might just look like a John K rip off so if you guys think that i have ripped off John K or Bob Clampett to much please give me a shout.

Regardless here is my character.
Apologies for the saturated scans.

Well here are two of my characters, but the main focus is the yellow guy. These drawings here dont really show my character in any soild form so there are some unusual poses and expressions here. I was just trying to figure out what size he should be at how varied i could get his expressions.

I was in Canada when i drew all these and unfortuantly they dont done celebrate Guy Fawkes Day over there. For whatever reason i felt a bit wierd that i wouldnt be around for what is overall a very medicore firework display. In relation to that i drew a very scratchy storyboard about my character trying to enjoy the glorys of bonfire night and did this slightly more solid drawing to accompany it.

I dont like this. Cant really remember what it was about.
I dont like Disney very much. This picture came from having to hear about the re-release of Snow White over and over on the t.v. Celebrating its seventy something anniversary. I remember when i was about eight Snow White had been re-released again and the VHS had the exact same advert as i saw on the t.v when they do they picture in picture before and after crap. To me, when ever something gets re released they just seem to get brighter. It wont be long until where watching a pure white screen with sound. But maybe we would have to wait for the Snow White re-re-re-re-re-re-re-release re-re-re-re-re-re-remastered before we can see something that brilliant.

I was also going to draw Mario on that picture as well. Am i the only one who is sick to death of him?

Once upon a time someone said i had a face that looked like it was melting. I feel this picture looks like it is melting.

The End

This drawing here is approximatly one week after the first drawing at the top of the post. There were a lot of rejected crappy drawings that didnt cut the mustard in between all these drawings. So i did have minor problems trying to draw things like the muzzle and the nose. Although by this point i was starting to get more confident with the range of expressions i would eventually want this character to have. It annoys me to think the whole body area is a total mess though. Makes me wonder why i cleaned it up.

Retarded hands. Flu this, flu that, thats what i heard on my travels across the land of maple syrup. So i drew this in relation to that.
This was taken from an episode of Ren and Stimpy called Rens Tootache....i think. I just needed a simple idea to try and draw. I just needed more practice drawing my own character, so that seemed like a good reference.

Over the next few posts i shall put up some of my doodles and more recent drawings and actually tell you the premise of this cartoon.

Thanks
